Hull FC’s Challenge Cup win in numbers

Hull FC’s Class of 2016 put themselves into legend status on Saturday 27th August by winning the Challenge Cup final at Wembley for their first time in their history.

Beating Warrington 12-10 after trailing by ten points, Hull showed incredible character to turn defeat into victory, and as the numbers game show it was a pretty significant one at that. Here are our favourite stats from this year’s Challenge Cup.

  • 2 – The number of Challenge Cups winners medals won by Kirk Yeaman, the first Hull FC player to win it on more than one occasion with the Black and Whites.
  • 4 – The four sides below Hull on the Super League ladder were all toppled in this years Challenge Cup campaign.
  • 4 – Hull have now won four Challenge Cup’s at four different venues, with wins coming at Halifax’s Thrum Hall, Leeds’ Elland Road, Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and London’s Wembley Stadium.
  • 9 – A cat has nine lives. The amount of attempts it took Hull to win at Wembley.
  • 10 – Number of pies thrown at Dan from Charlie Mullan’s Talking Balls team. Marc Sneyd’s on fire.
  • 11 – The gap between Hull’s Challenge Cup 2005 and 2016 successes, the shortest time it’s taken from one victory to another. Previous best was 23 years.
  • 15 – The amount of tries scored on Hull’s route to legend status.
  • 18 – The number of goals Marc Sneeeeeeydddddd slotted over in this year’s campaign.
  • 27 – Hull won both their 2005 and 2016 finals on the 27th August.
  • 30¬†– The number of appearances made by Scott Taylor and Danny Houghton this year, Hull’s only ever presents in 2016.
  • 47 – The number of points conceded by Hull in the whole Challenge Cup run.¬†Three less than Rovers conceded at Wembley. All obsessed aren’t we.
  • 50 – Steve Michaels made his 50th Hull FC appearance at Wembley. No pun intended.
  • 52 – Danny Houghton’s 52nd tackle was a try saver on Ben Currie. Unreal technique.
  • 55 – The total number of tackles made by Danny Houghton at Wembley. Legend.
  • 57 – It took 57 years for Hull FC to finally win at Wembley. Our first visit was in 1959.
  • 97 – The number of points scored by Hull in the 2016 Challenge Cup run.
  • 133 – The number of metres towering prop Liam Watts made at Wembley. Sort.
  • 358 – The amount of tackles made by Hull at Wembley.
  • 23,000 – The amount of people that were at Queens Garden’s for Hull FC’s homecoming, or so say Hull City Council.
  • 76,235 – The attendance for this year’s Challenge Cup final.
