Hull FC fullback Jamie Shaul says effort is not the issue as the Airlie Birds still look for their first win of the year.
The Hull-born number one was outstanding on Thursday night, winning the Sky Sports Man of the Match award despite Castleford’s 26-18 win at the KCOM Stadium.
“I’m absolutely gutted with that one – I’d take the two points over playing well, “Shaul told Sky Sports.
“The effort is there but we just don’t seem to be coming up with the two points which is very frustrating, but it’s not like we’re not trying.
“We created a lot of chances but we didn’t take them. We’ll be back in training on Monday and we’ll be working hard like usual. We’ll turn up to Wigan and it’s another tough test but we have to stay confident.”

Hull once again had chances to win the game, and Shaul knows that. It’s about being clinical now that’s the key and that must start at Wigan next week.
“It’s really frustrating but we’re not feeling sorry for ourselves,” Shaul added. “We’re there every day in training working hard and putting the effort in you’ve seen that.
“We’re just not getting the bounce of the ball. We’ve got some boys missing that’d we’d love to have out on that field but we’ve just got to get on with it. We’ll go again.
“You can’t go into games knowing that you’ve lost that many on the bounce, you just have to put it to the back of your mind and do your bit for the team, which a majority of the boys did. Roll on Wigan, where we’re going to have to pick the two points up.”
"We go again" 👏
