Hull academy ease to another victory

Academy Under 19 League Season Spilt – Group One – Round Six – Thursday 23rd July – Cas 18 Hull 44 – Wheldon Road

Hull FC’s much talented U19 side continued their good form in the second phase of the competition with an assured looking second half blitz to record an eight try victory against Castleford.

Maintaining third spot ahead of the top four play-off Hull move within two points of league leaders Wigan – and having controversially lost to them by just two points a fortnight ago will fancy their chances against the competitions elite.

Losing by a slender margin at half time, a ruthless second forty minutes paved the way for a commanding victory – and one mastered with the absentees of several key players. Reece Dean and Callum Lancaster missed out through injury, whereas Jordan Abdull and Jack Logan once more deputized in the first team.

Brad Fash once again staring at this level was on hand to open the scoring in a tricky first half, with Cas responding through a trio of tries through Robson, Gill and Sheehan. Osborne replied to keep his prolific record try-scoring record up – even more impressive for an interchange prop.

Hull didn’t take long to get back in front, as a strong third quarter brought tries for rookie Zeus Silk and last year pivot Josh Wood – the latter starting in his first game back from a gruesome head gash suffered against Leeds.

Fellow senior Callum Smith then crossed the white line, before highly thought of back rower Jansin Turgut continued his good personal form.

Hull rounded off the rout with Fash and Wood completing their braces, as Harry Tyson-Wilson went six from eight with the tee. Kieran Gill got a later consolation, but it was the visitors night, recording an emphatic 26 point victory.
