A smashing second half performance from Hull FC was enough to defeat Castleford 31-18 on Thursday night.
Here are Up the Cream’s individual player reviews.
Fullback: Jamie Shaul – Solid. Dealt with kicks all night and would have got himself a try if not for a bullshit video referee decision.
Right Wing: Ratu Naulago – Two more tries to add to his emergence. The Fijian has been some find. Pace to burn, plus a great attitude and work rate makes him a joy to watch. Man like Ratu.
Right Centre: Jake Connor – The Snake was outstanding. He might have assisted four of Hull’s five tries and created carnage on that right edge, but it still doesn’t succeed the number of opposition players he wound up. Proper bastards bastard. Love him.
Left Centre: Kieran Buchanan – The young fella along with Faraimo was caught out for Castleford’s first try but he didn’t put a foot wrong after that. Finding his feet at this level.
Left Wing: Bureta Faraimo – Saw a lot of the ball especially in the first half, but quietened down when Hull opted to go right.
Half Back: Albert Kelly – A hat-trick of tries gives him more deserved plaudits. His current form is ridiculously good, he’s on fire at the moment, even if the meat pies came after an indifferent first half. Great support play and determination to score. He cost nowt too.
Half Back: Marc Sneyd – Masterclass yet again from the man with the mercurial left boot. Another vintage Sneyd performance. Reached the 1000 point milestone with many more still to come.
Prop: Chris Green – Castleford got the better of Hull during his first stint but his second was better and helped the side get on top.
Hooker: Danny Houghton – Paul McShane will do well to get in the England women’s team based on that. Houghton showed him up. Good with the ball, scooted brilliantly with some fine breaks, and defended superbly. His engine defies logic. A freak.
Prop: Mickey Paea – Carried the ball strongly as he had done for weeks on end now. Completely turned his form around.
Back Row: Dean Hadley – Solid if not spectacular. Hadley struggled to punch holes with the ball but was good in defence.
Back Row: Mark Minichiello – Played with loads of energy and provided many great carries. Superb display from the Italian Stallion.
Loose Forward: Joe Westerman – Passenger in the first half as Hull struggled but much better in the second. Involved in a couple of tries and despite being linked with more clubs than Tiger Woods, he’s not going down without a fight.
From the Interchange:
Prop: Scott Taylor – Struggled in the first half but much better in the second. Welcome return after two games out.
Prop: Andre Savelio – Getting back into the swing of things now with three consecutive appearances. The more minutes he gets the better, then we’ll see the best of him.
Prop: Brad Fash – Added some genuine energy to Hull off the bench. He ran well and was really impressive in doing so. Superb stuff.
Back Row: Danny Washbrook – Got a run out late on and did nothing wrong.
