Hull FC Player Reviews: Wigan at home

Hull FC were at their eye catching best to see off Wigan 31-22 for a sixth consecutive home win.

Hull should have wrapped it up sooner, but take no credit away from them, nor respect for Wigan who as usual never threw in the towel in what was a belting game of rugby league.

Here are Up the Cream’s individual player reviews.

Starting XIII

Full Back: Jake Connor – The silky snake was back to best against Wigan. Five try assists in a mesmerising performance. Some sublime passes. Unplayable in that form and an absolute pleasure to watch.

Right Wing: Darnell McIntosh – Developing into a real crowd favourite. Works his backside off every week and knows his way to the try line too. Got over again and was also faultless under the high bomb.

Right Centre: Carlos Tuimavave – Hitting his top straps again with another brilliant performance. Tuimavave was a nuisance throughout and also got over for his 50th try for the club.

Left Centre: Connor Wynne – Getting better and better by the week. Such a threat out wide and has the pace to really hurt his opponent. Handled himself well defensively too.

Left Wing: Adam Swift – Back in the side, scored two tries, and stood up well against Bevan French. A proper winger who’s had a big impact under Brett Hodgson.

Half Back: Josh Reynolds – The Australian’s endeavour was not in question here. He had a real dig against Wigan and whilst there is some room for more polish, this at least was an enthusiastic display. Got over for a try too.

Half Back: Luke Gale – The new club captain needs more time and some continuity before we all start to judge him. No doubt he played a part, but there has to be plenty more to come.

Prop: Ligi Sao – Certainly up there with the best props in Super League right now. His first half performance was nothing short of phenomenal. Copped a PCL knee injury though and didn’t return. We’ll know more after scans.

Hooker: Danny Houghton – His 400th appearance was vintage Danny Houghton. Distribution was superb and he also found joy as Hull’s middles got a roll on. Fair play.

Prop: Kane Evans – Hodgson took a video session with fans as part of the clubs Hull and Proud week. In that session he talked about Kane’s running off the ball. It’s not always want you see and he brought plenty to the table here. Definitely improving.

Right Back Row: Jordan Lane – A solid display before a stung shoulder brought his afternoon to an end.

Left Back Row: Manu Ma’u – The Tongan Terminator has been nothing short of incredible this season. Up there with Hull’s best performers every week. Hard as nails and runs the ball in like a lunatic.

Loose Forward: Jack Brown – The young gun has gone up another level this year and he enjoyed himself here mixing with a tough and physical Wigan pack.

Interchange

Prop: Chris Satae – The big bopper came on and provided a real impact for Hull going forward. He’s unstoppable at times and got over for a match clinching try late in the game.

Prop: Scott Taylor – Seemed to the humble fan least to be running in treacle at times but in terms of getting to points and playing minutes he didn’t do much wrong.

Right Back Row: Josh Griffin – Came on after Lane’s knock and was steady. It seems Griffin’s transition to the pack is happening right now.

Loose Forward: Joe Lovodua – Back in the middle after a spell in the halves. Energetic as always and got through plenty of work.
