Hull FC Player Reviews: Wigan at home

Hull FC lost for the eight time in nine matches following a 0-10 to Wigan on Saturday afternoon.

Here are Up the Cream’s individual player reviews.

Starting XIII

Full Back: Jamie Shaul – Too many errors in key attacking positions. Jake Connor is Hull’s fullback, it’s as simple as that, and Shaul is going to need to adapt his game and be versatile. That’s not a bad thing though and a role on the interchange could prove pivotal next year.

Right Wing: Bureta Faraimo – The powerful winger has been excellent at times, but there are errors in him and that was the case against Wigan. Carried off the pitch after the game.

Right Centre: Carlos Tuimavave – One of Hull’s best as always in a beaten side. His consistency is just remarkable. Never take it for granted.

Left Centre: Mahe Fonua – Left the field injured early on. He’s got some serious questions to answer next year.

Left Wing: Mitieli Vulikijapani – Had a try ruled out late on as Connor’s pass was judged forward. The Fijian went alright. Did very little wrong.

Half Back: Jake Connor – Tried to get Hull going and kicked a sublime 40/20, but his performance like many others was error prone.

Half Back: Marc Sneyd – Fucking hate saying this but his form has been absolutely abysmal in recent weeks. He’s not on his own, but as the half back, you know the score and when the attack is so bad, a lot of it is going to fall on your shoulders.

Prop: Chris Satae – Hasn’t been as devastating since he’s come back from covid. It’s scary to think how good he actually was before that. He went okay here, but it’s not been the same as a few weeks ago.

Hooker: Jordan Johnstone – A couple of decent runs in a performance full of endeavour, you can never question Johnstone’s effort, but the service was slow. Then again everything about Hull is slow these days.

Prop: Ligi Sao – Energy and longevity are both brilliant but he is guilty of both an error and giving a penalty/six again away. Not being aware to the offload and dropping the ball is schoolboy stuff.

Right Back Row: Andre Savelio – Not involved enough and evidently not at the races right now. Been poor for a few weeks. A shame as he was superb in the first half of the season.

Left Back Row: Cameron Scott – Gave his all again and was rightly given the clubs Player of the Month award. He’s definitely got better as the year has gone on. Fair play. Now got to kick on even further.

Loose Forward – Manu Ma’u – The Tongan has been one of Hull’s best for a while now. Moved to the middle, he ran the ball in strong and noticeably with more whack than some of his colleagues.

Interchange

Prop: Brad Fash – You can never fault his effort even if his impact was stifled again in a beaten side.

Loose Forward: Jordan Lane – Came on and tried to make a difference. Lane is one of few that can hold his head up.

Left Centre: Connor Wynne – Again, it’s the young lads who are on a fraction of the wage of these so called super stars that are standing out at the moment. Wynne was good on his feet, he was a threat throughout and he carried the ball well.

Hooker: Ben McNamara – Tidy at hooker if not spectacular. He’s very safe. Would like to see him open a bit. Take some risks. There’s literally nothing to lose.
