Hull FC got their fifth win of the season on Thursday night, defeating Wakefield 26-23 at the neutral venue of Langtree Park.
Here are Up the Cream’s individual player reviews.
Full Back: Connor Wynne – Energetic throughout. Some really encouraging signs. Sin bin was harsh. He’s got some shithouse in him too. Love that.
Right Wing: Adam Swift – Much improved on last week, Swift scored his 100th and 101st career tries on his 150th career appearance. Pretty dangerous when he gets good ball…
Right Centre: Mahe Fonua – The obligatory strong carries and offload threat. A better showing, but there’s still loads more to come.
Left Centre: Cameron Scott – The real slim shady had it tough at times up against Reece Lyne but he also carried well and kept going all night.
Left Wing: Bureta Faraimo – Not on his own but there were errors (and more than most) that he won’t look back on with much fondness.
Stand Off: Albert Kelly – Didn’t hit the heights of the previous two weeks but still contributed to the win. Freakish offload for Swift to score his first try.
Half Back: Jake Connor – Couple of decent touches but a couple of wayward passes and errors too. Needs to stamp his mark more, but it all goes hand in hand with how Hull play. We’re not a great attacking team and it’s really showing at the moment.
Prop: Josh Bowden – A Head Injury Assessment interrupted his time on the field but after showing a bit of claret he battled on. Needs to have a bigger impact though. It’s not the magnificent Bowden right now that we saw in 2016/2017.
Hooker: Danny Houghton – Mixed his game up. Much better when running with the ball and was a threat in doing so. Topped the 100 metre count as well.
Prop: Brad Fash – To play in the middle for that amount of time and to not miss a single tackle is pretty impressive. Fash is in his element right now.
Right Back Row: Andre Savelio – Took some knocks and produced a couple of classy touches to score his try and assist Swift with a great catch and pass. Also came up with a couple of daft pressure adding errors that unfortunately seem embedded into this side.
Left Back Row: Jordan Lane – Getting some minutes into his belt now and looking good for it. A first try brace for Hull and took them well.
Loose Forward: Joe Cator – Great energy about him and it rubs off on others. Whether running the ball in or promoting it, he was brilliant again. 20 carries, 135 metres, 50 tackles and not one missed. Some shift that.
Prop: Chris Satae – Some big carries off the bench, ran for 112 metres. The best showing for weeks from the big fella.
Prop: Masimbaashe Matongo – First appearance for months following a shoulder injury and he was solid if not spectacular.
Prop: Jack Brown – Young prodigy who’s future is really exciting. Came on and looked to ruffle some feathers.
Back Row: Kieran Buchanan – Some good contributions especially late on. Always gives everything and is a good player to have around the place. Baffling why he’s allowed to leave for Batley next year.
