Hull FC humiliated at Anfield – Individual Player Reviews

Hull FC were humiliated at the Magic Weekend once again, losing 55-2 to Huddersfield at Anfield.

Here are Up the Cream’s individual player reviews.

Starting XIII:

Fullback: Jamie Shaul – One of very few to come out with any credit. Shaul was beaten by a wicked bounce of the ball for Huddersfield’s first try, but he didn’t let it faze him. There were a lot worse players in Black and White than the fullback.

Right Wing: Ratu Naulago – Huddersfield peppered Hull’s left edge in the second half. The Fijian did little wrong but did come up with a couple of errors. Who didn’t?

Right Centre: Jake Connor – Quiet. Jake got little ball and Huddersfield opted to go down the other side so he wasn’t really exposed in defence, at least in the second half.

Left Centre: Josh Griffin – We like Griff. He’s done well in his time at Hull FC so far but he won’t look back on that defensive performance very fondly. Huddersfield made him look stupid.

Left Wing: Kieran Buchanan – The young winger struggled and wasn’t helped by his centre. It’s a tough learning curve for not only Kieran, but a lot of the elder blokes out there too.

Half Back: Albert Kelly – Had a dig. He always does. Little service but tried to run the ball to the best of his ability. Must have been banging his head against a wall at times.

Half Back: Marc Sneyd – Left out to dry by his back rower and centre. The left edge was awful defensively. Don’t think he received one pass that was chest height and in front of him. A tough day.

Prop: Scott Taylor – Ineffective amongst a beaten side. At least he had the balls to lead the side over to the travelling fans. They were some angry people in the Kop and they let their feelings known.

Hooker: Danny Washbrook – Hopeless at hooker after a simple but effective display at Warrington last week. Another who won’t look bad too fondly. Where was Jez Litten?

Prop: Mickey Paea – Few strong drives in the first half. His first stint was actually decent, but he was fighting a losing battle. Much improved on last year.

Back Row: Dean Hadley – Moved around like a mannequin. Hard for Hadley to stamp his authority and we appreciate that but his stint at hooker was just awful. He’s a back rower and shouldn’t be asked to play there when there’s a perfectly good natural to the role in Jez Litten, but what do we know?

Back Row: Mark Minichiello – Defensively woeful. He was a turnstile and Huddersfield had so much joy running at him. Sums up Mini’s season, good one week, bad the next. Bit like the team.

Loose Forward: Joe Westerman – Knocked the ball on and just watched as Huddersfield picked it up and ran downfield. Lost his enthusiasm. Not surprising if the rumours about him going to Cas or Leeds are true. A real shame as he was outstanding when he first came back from injury. Been hung out to dry by some, who forget what he can bring to the side.

From the Interchange:

Prop: Chris Green – No hope from the interchange coming alongside a beaten side, but did nothing to prevent it either.

Prop: Josh Bowden – The only positive of the day. Welcome back Josh. It was like he was never away. More to come too. It’s a pleasure to see him on the field again.

Back Row: Sika Manu – Tough day for Sika. Should have passed the ball to Shaul after breaking through Huddersfield’s defence in the second half.

Prop: Brad Fash – Side were already beaten when Fash came on. Hopeless to prevent the onslaught.
