Hull FC were sensational on Saturday evening, smashing Catalans 50-10 for a record win in the South of France.
Here are Up the Cream’s individual player reviews.
Full Back: Jamie Shaul – Safe under the high bomb and turned Samkins inside out to score his try. That was worth the admission fee alone. Brilliant.
Right Wing: Ratu Naulago – Another breakaway try for the Fijian Flyer. The 27-year-old is absolutely rapid and is built like a brick shithouse. Tough as they come and does all the ugly stuff too. Top class winger who must be signed up for 2020 and beyond.
Right Centre: Jake Connor – Just world class isn’t he. Devastating at centre before moving to half back following Kelly’s injury.
Left Centre: Kieran Buchanan – The youngster is coming on leaps and bounds. Broke his way out of numerous tackles and got a first senior try. He’s a hard working level-headed lad that fully deserves his plaudits.
Left Wing: Bureta Faraimo – Great metres and a real advocate for getting Hull’s sets rolling. Strong as an ox.
Half Back: Albert Kelly – Sublime. His try was top draw and everything he did before a hamstring injury was pure class. Fuelled on nuggets and cost naff all. Hopefully be fit to face the unwashed on Thursday.
Half Back: Marc Sneyd – Majestic goal kicking and his organisation and word of mouth are invaluable. Superb player.
Prop: Chris Green – There’s rumours of a move away, but as far as we know the towering prop is playing for a new deal at Hull and he’s performing well right now. Continued that at Catalans.
Hooker: Danny Houghton – The glue that holds everything together. Superb running, handy distribution and defended superbly.
Prop: Mickey Paea – Some great drives which have become the norm now. The big Tongan prop is in terrific form.
Back Row: Sika Manu – Quieter than some but had his moments on a dynamite right edge. Still as intimidating as ever.
Back Row: Josh Griffin – Two tries. Couple of try assists. Metre machine. Superb performance from Griffin, it was that good Blake Austin will get three points for it.
Loose Forward: Joe Westerman – Had a dig in the middle and provided that middle option to distribute. Good support for his try too. Likely to depart and certainly one we’ll be sad to see go.
From the Interchange:
Prop: Josh Bowden – Such a welcome return to the side. Powerful as they come and starting to get back into the swing of things.
Prop: Scott Taylor – Leads the pack superbly. Strong carries and whilst his first year at Hull was all crash, bang, wallop, his footwork these days is outstanding.
Prop: Brad Fash – Enjoying a consistent run in the side now and looking better for it. Probably not a coincidence either. Fair play to him.
Back Row: Andre Savelio – Played both his stints on the edge and was a real threat. Another finding his feet after a long-term injury. Great first try for the club.
