Hull FC ease past Castleford – Individual Player Reviews

Hull FC defeated Castleford to reach the Challenge Cup quarter-finals on Friday night.

Here are the old mans individual player reviews.

Starting XIII:

Fullback: Jake Connor – The Snake was always a problem for Castleford, his leaps to win high balls were fantastic. Super try and was steady all night. So pleased he plays for Hull. He gives us that x-factor, you never know what he is going to do.

Right Wing: Ratu Naulago – The Fijian flyer is a find, make no mistake about it. Strong in defence and attack, and will get better the more experience he gets.

Right Centre: Jack Logan – Big mistake early on dropping the ball, he should have scored. Missed a few tackles, was obviously feeling the effects of an elbow knock. Couple of decent plays though.

Left Centre: Josh Griffin – Griff did the hard yards all night, not the spectacular 30-yardbreak but was a constant thorn to Castleford. Good defensively too.

Left Wing: Bureta Faraimo – Comfortably his best performance of the season. Solid all night, that offload for Mini’s try was class.

Half Back: Albert Kelly – Albey is a freak of nature, so strong, and so brave, even at times to his own detriment, he doesn’t mind taking one for the team. Super in defence too. We’re a much better side with him in the team.

Half Back: Mark Sneyd – The Ice Man just controls the game at times, his brain is so far ahead of the opposition it looks like child’s play. Some of his kicking was sublime.  Perfect from the tee, he is the reason we are what we are. When he works behind a dominant pack he’s always the man.

Prop: Scott Taylor – For me he was immense, his first stint had Castleford back peddling every time he took the ball up. The chant from the south eastern corner will have got his fire going, “He’s better that Watts.” Wish we still had them both but then again I’ve always been greedy.

Hooker: Danny Houghton – Crisp from the play the ball, he is scooting again, and we are always better when he does. This is a first for me, he actually fell off a couple of tackles! That’s how rare his missed tackles are. His distribution was good, but its always much easier when your pack is on top.

Prop: Mickey Paea – My standout on the night, where was this Mickey last year? So strong with the ball. Numerous good performances on the bounce now and hope he pushes on from here.

Back Row: Mark Minichello – Always a threat with the ball in hand. On hand to finish a good move. Sorry Mini not sure about the “Brutus” beard you know Popeye always wins in the end.

Loose Forward: Joe Westerman – Big minutes and a big performance from Joe. Took the ball in well and was a very solid performer. A compliment to the half backs as an old fashioned loose.

From the interchange:

Prop: Gareth Ellis – Sadly a nasty looking injury when making his first hit up of the night limited his time on the field. Hope he is okay, he has been outstanding for us.

Prop: Chris Green – What a return to the side its been for Greeny, very strong running and he is making yards for fun. Defensively he was good, the hit on Watts particularly memorable.

Prop: Masi Matongo – Limited time and only the one stint but he came on and attacked a tired defence. Learning every week, solid and reliable.

Centre: Dean Hadley – Feel for Dean, he is been used far too much as a utility player and never seems to get a run in his natural position. Came on to replace Logan and didn’t no anything wrong.
