Hull FC Player Reviews: Wakefield away

Hull FC lost their ninth match in ten following an embarrassing 44-12 defeat to Wakefield.

Here are Up the Cream’s Five Things column.

Starting XIII

Full Back: Jamie Shaul – Didn’t look comfortable early on and was taken off after copping a bang in an attempt to catch a high bomb.

Right Wing: Bureta Faraimo – Worked hard out the backfield but made a couple of errors as well on his final Hull appearance.

Right Centre: Carlos Tuimavave – Must feel like banging his head against a wall at times. Part of a right edge that was peppered in the first half.

Left Centre: Cameron Scott – A tough night for Hull’s two centres who both hardly saw any decent ball and spent the majority of the game defending.

Left Wing: Mitieli Vulikijapani – Got over for a try but he’s raw and he showed that with his errors in the first half in particular.

Half Back: Jake Connor – Moved to fullback after Wynne’s injury and had a say with an assist for Vulikijapani – his 22nd in Super League this year.

Half Back: Ben McNamara – Exposed defensively as Wakefield ran over the top of him. Found it tough with ball in hand too.

Prop: Ligi Sao – Stifled by his opposition pack. Not often you can say that.

Hooker: Jordan Johnstone – Service was too slow and he was caught at the ruck at least three times. Hull desperately need a new hooker. It’s the position in most urgent need of attention.

Prop: Chris Satae – One or two bright moments including a brilliant shot on Eddie Battye but fatigue told.

Right Back Row: Andre Savelio – Not the same player in recent weeks. Everything seems lethargic. What’s going on?

Left Back Row: Manu Ma’u – Arguably Hull’s best and has been for the last couple of months now. He had a go. That’s more than can be said for some of his teammates.

Loose Forward: Jordan Lane – He’s had a big season and has kept going during the sides drop in form. His grubber found Connor in the in-goal.

Interchange

Prop: Brad Fash – No impact in a side that had already succumbed to Wakefield’s dominance in the first half.

Prop: Josh Bowden – What does he actually do these days? Just not the same player as in those cup winning years. Not on his own either.

Full Back: Connor Wynne – Brought on after Shaul’s injury and got took off injured himself soon after.

Half Back: Jacob Hookem – A positive Hull debut for the young half. One of very few to bring energy and enthusiasm. He ran the ball and engaged the line despite being in a well beaten side.
